About The Role

EKC Group are seeking a Head of Department for Supported Learning at Folkestone College to join the Group. As a Head of Curriculum, you will be responsible for managing the Supported Learning Department, promoting high standards of Teaching and Learning and managing external partnerships with local authorities and social care providers, creating a positive and supportive culture that aspires to be outstanding.
 
The Head of Department must work closely with the additional learning support department to ensure the effective deployment of learning and personal care support that ensures that all students achieve their potential. 

In the role of Head of Department your responsibilities will also include overseeing the quality of provision, including the behaviours and attitudes of students and the implementation of a programme of employer engagement and interaction with the student union including enrichment activities enhancing students personal development, you will actively encourage excellence in teaching through quality monitoring and undertaking staff 121s as well as effectively managing a delegated budget.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring that curriculum delivery is of the highest quality whilst ensuring the required support is in place to help all learners thrive and achieve in our dynamic teaching and learning environment.

The successful candidate will bring a track record and genuine passion for driving up standards and a can-do attitude that will inspire your team. You will have previous experience of working with local authorities on placing young people with EHCPs in the correct provision. A good knowledge of supporting students with complex care needs and PMLD to make progress in an educational setting will be required as will excellent communication skills to manage the multiple external stakeholder relationships required to deliver this provision. 
 
Up to date knowledge of innovative teaching practices in entry level learning, including having used structured visual learning and imbedding of Makaton in to curriculum design are essential requirements for this role. So too is a commitment to excellence, a focus on delivery and strategic understanding.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a specialist high level qualification / experience and a recognised teaching qualification (DET/PGCE/CertEd). With demonstrable teaching practice at good or outstanding level, you will also have experience of curriculum planning and development and a proven ability to manage and lead an experienced, professional team to deliver results.
